Thomas Voelzke

Thomas Voelzke (born January 24, 1956 in Elmshorn ) is a German lawyer. He is vice-president and presiding judge at the Federal Social Court .

Career

Voelzke studied law at the Universities of Kiel and Hamburg . In 1985 he began his judicial career in Schleswig-Holstein's social justice system . From 1989 to 1991 he was assigned to the Federal Social Court from Schleswig-Holstein as a research assistant . In 1992 he was appointed judge at the State Social Court of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . For a while he was the president of this court at this regional social court. On January 1, 1997, he was appointed judge at the Federal Social Court. Until 2008 he was a member of the 11th Senate (from 2004 as its deputy chairman), which is responsible for cases from the areas of responsibility of the Federal Labor Office . In August 2008 he became a member of the 4th Senate of the Federal Social Court, which has to deal with basic security for jobseekers ( unemployment benefit II ). Since November 2004 he has been the court's press officer. As a documentation officer of the court (since 1997) he became chairman of the juris advisory board in 2007. On December 1st, 2009 he became chairman of the 4th Senate of the Federal Social Court.

In addition to his judicial work, Voelzke is also a scientist. He publishes legal comments on various areas of social law and has been teaching as a lecturer (now as honorary professor) at the Humboldt University in Berlin since 2003 .
