Thomas Wallner (politician)

Thomas Wallner (born September 22, 1938 in Herisau ; legal resident in Beinwil SO ) is a Swiss historian, former high school teacher and politician.

Life

Wallner studied history, German and constitutional law at the University of Zurich . After completing the teachers' seminar in Solothurn, he became a primary school teacher in Rickenbach , and later he also worked as a high school teacher. In 1967 he obtained his doctorate with his dissertation “The Canton of Solothurn and the Confederation 1841–1847”. Wallner has been Professor of German and History since 1969. He is the author of various works on the history of Solothurn and was involved in a large number of other publications. From 1988 to 1992 he was Rector of the Solothurn Cantonal School .

On June 14, 1992, Thomas Wallner was elected to the government council as a candidate of the CVP in the second ballot . Wallner initially served as head of the Department of Economics. In 1995 he took over the education department, two years later he was again head of the department of economics. Wallner was Landammann in 1996 and 1999. In October 2002 Thomas Wallner announced his resignation on September 30, 2003.

Thomas Wallner is married and has one adult daughter. He lives in Oberdorf .
