Thomas Winther Andersen

Thomas Winther Andersen (born April 29, 1969 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Act

Andersen started playing bass when he was 13. He studied music at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1988 to 1993 and a year later obtained a master's degree from the Koninklijk Conservatorium The Hague . In 1995 he received a grant from the Dutch Fonds voor de podiumkunsten to study with Sal Mosca in New York .

In Europe, Andersen worked with musicians like Håkon Storm, Jimmy Halperin , Jasper Blom , Michiel Borstlap , John Engels , Lee Konitz , Sheila Jordan , Robert Rook and Deborah Carter. He lives in Amsterdam and is married to the jazz singer Henriette Andersen .

Andersen has not only composed numerous pieces for various jazz ensembles, but also music for large ensembles and chamber music. Some of his compositions were recorded for Norwegian and Dutch radio, but are also on his solo album Too Much Bass? (2002) included. As a band leader, he continued to present albums such as Line Up (1998) and Out from a Cool Storage (2004).
