Sal Mosca

Salvatore Joseph "Sal" Mosca (* 27 April 1927 in Mount Vernon , NY ; † 28. July 2007 in White Plains ) was an American jazz - pianist of Cool Jazz .

Sal Mosca studied with Lennie Tristano and at the New York College of Music . He began working with Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh in 1949. His style of playing, which was strongly influenced by Tristano, can be heard on many Konitz records from the 1950s. Otherwise he worked mainly as a freelance musician, but also played with Saxie Dowell in 1947 and had his own duo in 1959. Most of his career he taught (including Billy Lester ) and has been relatively inactive since 1992 with regard to appearances and recordings; In 2004 and 2005, however, two last CDs were released.
