Thomas Zwingel (politician)

Thomas Zwingel (born September 25, 1963 in Fürth ) is a German local politician of the SPD and since 2006 the First Mayor of the city ​​of Zirndorf .

Life

Origin and education

Zwingel was born in Fürth, but grew up in Zirndorf. He attended the primary school in Zirndorf and the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium in Oberasbach , where he passed the Abitur examination in 1982. Zwingel then studied at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Hof and passed the final exam there in 1985.

Before his career as a local politician, Zwingel worked as a graduate in administration and from 1985 until his election as First Mayor in May 2006 as head of the Citizens' Office of the city of Fürth . He was also a freelancer for the Fürther Nachrichten.

Political party

In the local elections in 1990, Zwingel was elected to the Zirndorfer city council and the Fürth district council. In the 1996 and 2002 elections he was confirmed in both bodies. In the Zirndorf city council, Zwingel was parliamentary group leader of the SPD.

In October 2002 Zwingel was elected 2nd Mayor and in 2006 First Mayor of Zirndorf. In the 2012 mayoral election, he was re-elected in the first ballot with 57.1 percent of the vote.

During the term of office of Zwingel, the energetic renovation of the Zirndorf town hall and the new construction of the gym on Mühlstrasse as well as the renovation and expansion of the city center fall. The development of the former Pinder barracks (today's Pinderpark) was also completed during the term of office of Thomas Zwingel.

Private

Zwingel is married and has a son (* 2006). He is an avowed supporter of SpVgg Greuther Fürth .
