Thomas le Cointe (* 1682 in Dieppe , Normandy ; † December 7, 1776 in Potsdam ) was a theologian of Huguenot descent. He was the first pastor of the French Reformed community in Potsdam.

Life

Thomas le Cointe's parents left France when the son was three years old. Thomas studied Protestant theology at the Brandenburg University in Frankfurt and then became a pastor in Brandenburg an der Havel . When Friedrich Wilhelm I founded the French colony in Potsdam in 1723, the colonists wanted le Cointe to be their pastor. On July 11, 1723, he gave his inaugural sermon in the palace chapel in the presence of the entire court. The congregation flourished under his spiritual guidance, and in 1735 a second pastor had to be appointed. In 1739 le Cointe was appointed councilor in the French high consistory and inspector of the churches.

Since Frederick II had the palace chapel otherwise, the service was held by le Cointe in the garrison church from July 1750 until the king had the French church built two years later , which was inaugurated in September 1753.

Thomas le Cointe died at the age of almost 93.
