Thomaston Castle

Thomaston Castle is the ruins of a medieval lowland castle ( Tower House ) west of Maybole in Scotland administrative unit South Ayrshire . For the most part, it still looks the same today as it did hundreds of years ago. Little has changed, only a house has been added to the property. The castle is now falling into disrepair; Bricks of masonry tumble into the yard.

Thomaston Castle is a Scheduled Monument .

history

The castle was built in the 13th century for a nephew of King Robert the Bruce . It then belonged to Alan McIlvaine (* 1500 in Ayrshire), whose family supplied wine to the Earls Kennedy , the owners of the nearby Culzean Castle . After his death, Thomaston Castle fell to Patrick McIlvaine when he married Isobel Kennedy , niece of the Earl of Cassilis .
