The Thomsen Islands are a group of small islands west of the Antarctic Peninsula . They belong to the Biscoe Islands archipelago and are 3 km southwest of Speerschneider Point off the west coast of Renaud Island .
The islands are first shown on an Argentine map from 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after the Danish meteorologist Helge Thomsen (1904–1985), who was responsible at the Danmarks Meteorologiske Institute for the preparation of the annual reports on the sea ice situation in the Antarctic waters .
