The Thomson Rock is an approximately 900 m high nunatak on the Rymill coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 5 km east of Mount Bagshawe on the eastern edge of the Batterbee Mountains .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1977 after the geologist Michael Robert Alexander Thomson (* 1942), who worked for the British Antarctic Survey at the stations at Fossil Bluff and on Stonington Island from 1963 to 1966 .
