Thorsten Zacharias (born November 9, 1965 in Mainz ) is a former German handball referee who was a member of the DHB squad for 15 years .

Life

He began his referee career in 1984 at the age of 18 and has been a referee team with Matthias Dang since 1992 . From 1993 to 2008 he led over 481 games in the DHB area, including the cup final between HSV Hamburg and SG Flensburg-Handewitt in 2004 and the cup final between THW Kiel and HSV Hamburg in 2008.

On July 26, 2008 Thorsten Zacharias ended his active career as a referee together with Matthias Dang by leading the international match of the German women's national team against the selection of Angola in Cologne's Lanxess Arena . Since the end of his career as an active Bundesliga referee, he was responsible for the junior referee squad at the DHB until 2011 and is also the official match supervisor in the German handball league.

Thorsten Zacharias was a member of the referee committee of the handball association Rheinhessen until 2010 and was appointed head of referee observation by the German Handball Federation in summer 2011. He ended his coaching work at the Rheinhessen federation league club HSC Ingelheim in December 2011 in order to be able to devote himself entirely to the tasks at the DHB.
