The Thrakische thyme or long tooth and thyme ( Thymus thracicus ) is a plant type from the genus of thyme ( Thymus ) in the family of Labiatae .

description

The Thracian thyme is a small shrub that forms long, creeping and woody stems that do not bear flowers, on which there are tufts of deciduous leaves and up to 10 cm long flower-bearing stems in the armpits . On the flower-bearing stems there are groups of small leaves at the base. The stems are hairy all around or on two opposite sides. The leaves are usually 8 to 12 mm long and 2 (rarely, more often 3) to 4 mm wide. They are elliptical-spatulate, almost pointed and leathery. The side veins are clearly defined, one edge vein is missing.

The inflorescences are spherical to slightly cylindrical. The bracts resemble the foliage leaves. The calyx is 4 to 6 mm long, tinged with purple, the upper lip is slightly longer than the lower lip. The upper teeth are about 1 mm long and mostly ciliate. The crown is up to 8 mm long and purple.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28 or 58.

Occurrence and locations

The species occurs from Italy, Albania, Greece, the former Yugoslavia and Bulgaria to Turkey.
