Throwing Muses is an American alternative - band , which in the 1980s and 1990s with a mix of pop music and noise rock drew attention to himself. The band was denied great success due to the unconventional sound, but within the independent community, many artistic impulses came from them.
biography
Kristin Hersh founded Throwing Muses in 1980 in Newport , Rhode Island with her stepsister Tanya Donelly and school friends David Narcizo and Elaine Adamedes . You were 14 years old at the time. Just four years later they released the EP of the same name, which was well received by the critics. 1986 the bass guitar was taken over by Leslie Langston, which was represented by Fred Abong in 1990. The band was signed by the British record company 4AD . In 1992, the composition of the band changed when Donelly left (see also: Belly ) and Langston also moved in a different direction. Hersh had meanwhile become a mother of two and left the band's activities on hold for a long time. In 1995 the Muses returned with Georges on bass. Since 1997, Hersh has been essentially a solo artist. However, the band unites for occasional concerts, played z. B. 2011 as part of a tour in Berlin and released a best-of album entitled "Anthology". In October 2013 the band released a ninth album entitled "Purgatory / Paradise" in the form of a book with an accompanying CD.
