distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from North Africa across Europe, east to Siberia, but is absent in the far north. It is widespread in Central Europe, but less common in the north. In the south of Germany it is common in places in sandy areas. It is widespread in the south of the UK but only occurs locally. Dry and warm habitats are populated, especially those with sandy soils.

Way of life

The animals live mainly on violets ( viola ), but you can find them on the ground under various types of plants. The adults are rarely found on top of the plants. The nymphs initially live in aggregations . They probably suckle at the roots of their food plants. The wintering takes place under dry leaf and coniferous litter, in moss or under stones. The mating takes place from April, the oviposition mainly in May and June. The adult animals of the new generation can be found from the end of July or August. One generation occurs every year.
