Tiana Luise Lemnitz (born October 26, 1897 in Metz ; † February 5, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher .

Life

Lemnitz received her vocal training at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main . In 1922 she was engaged by the Stadttheater Aachen , after which she was part of the ensemble of the Stadttheater in Hannover . From 1931 she sang at the Dresden Opera , to whose ensemble she belonged from 1933 to 1934.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , she became a member of the NSDAP on May 1, 1933 ( membership number 2.955.384). In 1934 she came to the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden ; to which she was to remain loyal for over two decades. Lemnitz quickly became one of the stars of the ensemble and was considered the epitome of lyrical soprano .

In 1937, she was by Adolf Hitler to Kammersängerin appointed. In 1943 she appeared in the feature film Old Heart Becomes Young Again and in the opera film Night Without Farewell . In the final phase of the Second World War , Hitler included her in the list of the most important artists in August 1944, before the planned closure of the theaters on September 1 , which saved her from being deployed in the war - also on the home front  .

In 1953 Lemnitz became head of the opera studio at the Berlin State Opera. She had her last appearance in 1957 at the State Opera. After her time as an active singer, Lemnitz trained the next generation as a singing professor.

Tiana Lemnitz died in Berlin in 1994 at the age of 96. She found her final resting place in the hereditary funeral of the family of her husband Friedrich Scheuer (1884–1966) at the Dahlem cemetery .
