Tiberio Tito
Tiberio Tito (born December 24, 1573 in Florence , † August 10, 1627 ibid) was a Florentine painter of the Italian Baroque .
life and work
Tiberio Tito was the son of Santi di Tito , who came from Borgo Sansepolcro and worked in Florence . Tiberio was a pupil, later an assistant to his father, and after his death in 1603 completed the paintings that were left behind. Among other things, he completed and signed the portrait of Mercuriales and his son Massimiliano, which shows the return of the relics from Jerusalem to Forlì by Saint Mercurialis (Church of San Mercuriale in the Abbazia di San Mercuriale, Forlì).
Tiberio Tito was the house painter of the Medici as Grand Dukes of Tuscany. He specialized in portraits of the Archduke's family. The portrait of little Francesco Medici (1594–1614), fourth child of Ferdinando I Medici and Cristina of Lorraine from 1597 is well known among his children. His portrait of Prince Leopold von Medici , which shows the future Cardinal Leopold as a child and a half year old (Palazzo Pitti, Florence), is very unusual .
The artist's works can be found in the churches and museums of Tuscany.
