Tibor Fischer (born November 15, 1959 in Stockport ) is a British writer.

Life

Tibor Fischer's parents, who were both basketball players, fled Hungary after the suppression of the Hungarian people's uprising in 1956. His father worked as a radio editor at BBC Radio 4 after graduating .

Fischer grew up in London and attended a comprehensive school . He studied Romance languages ​​and Latin at the Peterhouse of Cambridge University .

Fischer's debut novel Under the Frog (Stalin or I) won the Betty Trask Award in 1992 and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 1993 .
