Tibor Flórián

Tibor Flórián [ ˈtibor ˈfloːriaːn ] (born March 2, 1919 in Budapest ; † January 28, 1990 there ) was a Hungarian chess player , chess composer , author and functionary .

In 1945 Flórián won the Hungarian championship. In 1948 he reached the shared first place in Belgrade . Further successes were 4th place in Bucharest in 1949, 3rd place in Bucharest 1951 and 3rd place in San Benedetto del Tronto 1957. In 1952 he took part in the Chess Olympiad in Helsinki (+3 = 7 −2). In 1961 he represented Hungary at the European Team Championships in Oberhausen .

In 1950 the World Chess Federation FIDE awarded him the title of International Master . Flórián achieved his best historical rating of 2554 in December 1958 .

Correspondence chess

Flórián was also active in correspondence chess . So he took part in the 7th, 8th and 9th Correspondence Chess Olympiad.

Chess composition

At the age of 15 he composed his first chess problems, many of which he published under the pseudonym Feldmann .

From 1961 to 1984 Flórián was General Secretary of the Hungarian Chess Federation. In 1951 he became an international referee . At the 1969 Women's Chess Olympiad, he was the main referee.

Chess author

Flórián published many articles in various chess magazines. From 1983 to 1984 he was editor-in-chief of the Hungarian magazine Magyar sakkélet . He also wrote more than 20 chess books.
