Tibor Rafael (born January 25, 1970 in Komárno ; † July 1, 2014 ibid), a Slovak , was a Czechoslovak boxer.

Boxing career

The approximately 1.70 m tall left boom is one of the most successful amateur boxers from the former Czechoslovakia. He was multiple national champion, achieved 5th place at the European Junior Championships in Poland in 1988, and also 5th place at the European Championships in Sweden in 1991. In his first World Cup participation in Australia in 1991, he reached 9th place.

In May 1993 he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Finland for the successor state Slovakia . He was only eliminated in the semifinals due to a hand injury, his opponent in this round would have been Damián Austin . In September 1993 he won the silver medal for the Czech Republic at the European Championships in Turkey. He was controversial in the final fight with +7: 7 against Jacek Bielski . He is also a multiple medalist at international tournaments, where he won the Grand Prix tournament in Ústí nad Labem five times .

From October 2001 to April 2014 he had an unsuccessful career as a professional boxer with 54 fights in Hungary, France, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Slovakia, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria, Croatia and Montenegro , where he suffered only defeats except for nine fights, including against Jacek Bielski and Ali Ahraoui .

On July 3, 2014, he was found dead by passers-by in his hometown. The autopsy revealed myocardial infarction as the cause of death .
