Till I Loved You
Till I Loved You is a song that Maury Yeston composed and released in 1988. It was planned as part of Yeston's musical Goya: A Life in Song , which was not performed on stage but was released as an album in 1989.
The original was sung by the Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo and the American singer Dionne Warwick . For the Japanese version of the album, Seiko Matsuda took over the part of Warwick, for the British version Jennifer Rush . Domingo recorded together with Gloria Estefan also a Spanish-language version with the title Hasta amarte and together with Simone Bittencourt de Oliveira a Portuguese version with the title Apaixonou . Hasta Amarte reached # 8 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart.
The version starring Jennifer Rush was released as a single in 1989 and reached number 24 in the UK charts.
Cover versions
Even before the Goya album was released, Don Johnson and Barbra Streisand recorded a cover version that appeared on Streisand's album of the same name in 1988, and in 2002 on the compilation Duets . This version reached number 16 as a single in the British, number 25 in the American charts and number 22 in the Spanish radio charts.
