Maury Yeston

Maury Yeston (born October 23, 1945 in Jersey City , New Jersey ) is an American musical composer , songwriter and author. He also teaches as a musicologist and is also active as a scientific author. Yeston studied at Yale University and at Clare College of Cambridge University .

Life

Yeston made famous by the success of his Broadway -pieces Nine , Titanic - The Musical and Grand Hotel . But remarkable pieces by him have also been played on Off-Broadway. For the 100th anniversary of Carnegie Hall in New York , he wrote the December Songs in 1991 , a modern song cycle based on Franz Schubert's winter journey and sung in German by Pia Douwes . For his concept album Goya - a Life in Song , Yeston wrote the song Till I Loved You , which became a hit in the interpretation of Barbra Streisand and which can be heard on the album in interpretations of Plácido Domingo with Dionne Warwick and Gloria Estefan .

In addition to his creative activities, Yeston is president of various foundations such as the Kurt Weill Foundation.
