Titanic - Das Musical is a musical by Maury Yeston (music) and Peter Stone ( libretto ) about the sinking of the Titanic on 14/15. April 1912. The premiere took place on April 23, 1997 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on Broadway in New York .
action
The play begins at the port of Southampton and ends after the disaster with the rescue of the survivors. In between you get to know the crew and passengers of the Titanic . In the third grade, a young couple falls in love and dreams of a new beginning in the New World. In the first grade, an old Jewish couple is still as in love as they were a long time ago.
Accompanying Bruce Ismay , director of ship owner White Star Line , is shown as the cold-hearted person urging Captain EJ Smith to make the Titanic 's maiden voyage to New York in record time. Therefore the captain increases the speed, takes a more northerly (shorter) route and ignores iceberg warnings. The Titanic begins to sink after colliding with an iceberg.
Most of the other roles also correspond to real people, e.g. B. Thomas Andrews (the designer), Frederick Barrett (stoker; there were two with this name on the ship) and Harold Bride (the radio operator) as well as the millionaires Ida and Isidore Strauss (co-owners of the Macy’s department store chain ), JJ Astor and Benjamin Guggenheim .
