The holy Tillmann (also Tillo , in Germany Thielmann , France Theau * 608 in Westphalia , † January 7 702 in Solignac ) worked as a priest in Tournai and long retired as a hermit. His feast day is January 7th.

Life

Tillmann probably came from Westphalia in Old Saxony and therefore had pagan parents. Already as a boy, he was forcibly brought to the Frankish Empire via Flanders , bought by St. Eligius in Paris, baptized and given to the monks of Solignac (Solemniacum) in the Limousin for further education. Ordained a priest, he worked from Tournai, the old Merovingian residence before 487, far into the Netherlands and his old homeland Germany. After the death of St. Eligius on December 1, 659 , he went for a long time in solitude to Brajeac near Mauriac in Auvergne . He is said to have buried the holy Ewaldi brothers around 691 near Dortmund . He knew the hour of his own death at the advanced age of almost 94 years, because he sent a messenger to Bishop Hermenus (Ermenon) of Limoges , who then appeared at the right time to bury Tillmann. 300 students mourned at his grave.
