Timothy Friday (born March 5, 1961 in Burbank , California ) is a former American ice hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League from 1981 to 1986 .

Career

Tim Friday began his career as an ice hockey player at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute , which he attended from 1981 to 1985, while he also played for its ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With his university team he won the ECAC Hockey championship in 1984 and 1985 and the NCAA championship in 1985. On May 27, 1985 he received a contract as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League . In the 1985/86 season he played a total of 23 NHL games for Detroit, in which he prepared three goals. At the same time, he ran for Detroit's farm team Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League . With Adirondack he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season . He contributed to this success with 37 scorer points, including two goals, in a total of 59 games. Due to a serious shoulder injury, Friday had to end his career prematurely after only one year in the professional field.
