August Ulrich von Hardenberg (born November 5, 1709 ; † September 13, 1778 in Hanover ) was a German, Hanoverian diplomat , privy councilor and war councilor .

Life

August Ulrich von Hardenberg came from the Lower Saxon noble family of those von Hardenberg . His older brothers were the privy councilor and garden architect Friedrich Karl von Hardenberg and the field marshal Christian Ludwig von Hardenberg , two younger brothers, Colonel Hans Christoph (* 1703, ⚔ 1747) and Georg Wilhelm (1705–1774), were officers.

He studied first at the Alma Ernestina in Rinteln , then at the University of Helmstedt , where he wrote his dissertation under Professor Kress .

After completing his studies, von Hardenberg became court advisor at the judicial chancellery in Hanover, then rose to war council and then to secret council. Hardenberg remained in the service of Hanover, although the King of Prussia had offered him the position of assessor at the Imperial Court of Justice in Wetzlar , where von Hardenberg had also passed his exam .

August Ulrich von Hardenberg, valued as a learned interlocutor, was temporarily ambassador to the Landgrave of Hesse in Kassel . In 1743 he married Wilhelmine Charlotte, née von Wendt . However, the two had no children.
