Reginald Garnet “Tim” Williamson (born June 6, 1884 in North Ormesby , † August 1, 1943 ibid) was an English football goalkeeper who played for the English first division club Middlesbrough . By the 1956/57 season he was the record player in the Football League First Division with a total of 564 appearances .

Career

In his youth, Williamson played as a center-forward for Coatham Grammar School , Redcar Juniors and Redcar Crusaders . At the age of 17 he played as a goalkeeper for Middlesbrough FC in the friendly against Cliftonville FC .

Middlesbrough was very interested in a professional contract with him, but Williamson only signed on the condition that he could continue to practice his profession as a draftsman . On January 1, 1902, he made his debut playing against Crook Town . He played his last game on March 24, 1923 against Cardiff City , which was won 1-0. At this point he was 38 years and 9 months old, making him the club's oldest player until Bryan Robson broke the record in 1997. In his 21 years at Middlesbrough FC, he played a total of 603 competitive games in all competitions and thus holds the club record to this day. In his professional career he scored two goals from penalties.

In February 1905 Williamson played for the English national football team for the first time against Ireland , with an own goal in the 1-1 draw. On February 15, 1913, he was also used for the last time against Ireland. The game was lost this time with 1: 2. He made a total of seven international matches in his career.
