Joachim Gocht

Joachim Gocht (born November 13, 1935 in Leutersdorf ; † March 14, 2008 in Coswig ) was a German jazz and entertainment musician ( alto saxophone , arrangement , composition , orchestra conductor).

Live and act

Gocht first played with his brother, the trumpeter Günter Gocht , in the local dance orchestra and with the Schlagersterne Zittau. In the early 1960s, Gocht played at least at individual concerts with Klaus Lenz's Modern Jazz Big Band . He also published his own jazz compositions as Impressionen '65 , including “Memory of Satchmo”. Between 1962 and 1967 he completed a distance learning course at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin ; Between 1964 and 1969 he directed the Astoria dance orchestra, which also accompanied pop stars such as Dagmar Frederic and Siegfried Uhlenbrock , for whom he also composed.

Gocht taught composition and arrangement between 1972 and 1977 as a lecturer at the Musikhochschule in Berlin. He also worked for German television , around 1973 as arranger for the program Ein Kessel Buntes and between 1976 and 1991 as musical director of the program Alles singt . He also directed his own orchestra, with which he also accompanied Peter Ehrlicher (“On a journey into time”), and arranged for Peter Albert (“The Great Show”, “Wenn”) and Theo Schumann . In later years Gocht was also active as an arranger for brass music and directed the Löbauer Berg-Musikanten from 1994 until his death .
