Timothy M. "Tim" Giardina was a United States Navy officer .

Career

He is from Caldwell, Idaho . In 1979 Giardina graduated from the US Navy Academy. He holds an advanced degree in business administration.

Giardina served as an officer in the submarine weapon. He served here on the USS Hyman G. Rickover and the USS Kentucky . From July 2001 to July 2003 he commanded Submarine Squadron 17 in Washington . Giardina then served on the Navy staff until 2007. He was then Deputy Chief of Staff for Readiness and Training at US Fleet Command in Norfolk, Virginia and then Chief of Staff of the US 7th Fleet in Yokosuka , Japan . During this last position he was promoted to   flag officer .

In December 2011 was temporarily in the rank of Vice Admiral Deputy Commander of the United States Strategic Command , which is responsible for the nuclear forces of the United States . He was recalled from this post in October 2013. The reason was the suspicion that he in a casino in Iowa could have played with fake chips. He retired in July 2015.
