Tippi Degré (full name Tippi Benjamine Okanti Degré ; born June 4, 1990 in Windhoek , Namibia ) is a French author who became famous in southern Africa because of her childhood, documented in the picture book Tippi from Africa . This illustrated book contains pictures taken by Degré's parents, which show Degré in close contact with various African animals. Through these recordings, she received media attention as "The girl who talks to animals".

Life

Degré's parents Sylvie Robert and Alain Degré went to Africa in the 1980s to work as freelance nature photographers, specializing in the life of the meerkats , with whom they “lived” for some time. When Degré was just a few months old, her parents took her on a photo safari and photographed their daughter's encounter with African animals. Degré grew up in close contact with the San children , whose language and survival techniques she learned. In addition, she lived in close contact with several animals, including an elephant, a leopard, a lion, a baboon, and an ostrich.

Degré says of herself that she can communicate with animals.

Degré spent most of her childhood in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and then Madagascar. Sometimes she attended school in Paris, later she was given distance learning by her mother or private tutors while traveling.

Today she lives in Paris and studies film studies at the University of Paris III - Sorbonne Nouvelle. She was involved in a series of six documentaries on Africa on the Discovery Channel . Degré's book Tippi from Africa reached number 17 on the 2001 annual bestseller list of the news magazine Der Spiegel .
