The Rüdiger Timme Carpentry Museum is a museum in Eilsleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

The museum, housed in an old farm at Ostendstrasse 2 , is dedicated to the history of the carpentry trade and wood processing.

history

The origin of the museum is a collection of profile planes created by the carpenter and frame glass master Rüdiger Timme from 1965 . In 1995 a historical workshop was set up in an 18 m² room, which was also open to the public. In 1998 the museum moved to the farm that is still in use today. After expansion, 10 rooms on 350 m² are now used for the exhibitions.

Furnishing

Various workshops with original tools have been set up in the museum. One room is set up as a wheelwright shop . There the work steps for the production of a wooden wagon wheel are shown, as they were common in the region. Another workshop shows the workplace, the bank room, of a sole master. Several workplaces are shown in another workshop.

Several rooms are devoted to historical work machines, with both cast iron and wooden fittings being shown. Other workshops show a turnery , carpentry and cooperage . The exhibition also features a wooden water pipe that was found during excavations in Wernigerode , as well as an original drilling device with a length of 5 meters for drilling such pipes.

In addition to 1,500 planes , the exhibition also includes a collection of historical windows, window glasses as well as building and furniture fittings.

The focus of the exhibition is on the handicraft tradition of the region. However, there are also exhibits from China , France , Great Britain , Japan , the Netherlands , Austria and the USA . Reconstructions of a Roman workbench and planes are also on display .

Models provide information about a sawmill powered by water power and the use of steam engines in joineries.

In 2012 the exhibition area was expanded. Since then, the museum has had a historic barn across the street. Among other things, the production and processing of veneer is shown here. In addition, historical kitchen furniture and windows and doors are exhibited.
