The Tischrin SC ( Arabic تشرين Tischrīn , DMG Tišrīn 'October', often also Teshrine , Tishreen , Teshreen or Tashreen ) is a Syrian sports club from the port city of al-Ladhiqiyya ( Latakia ). The men's soccer team currently plays in the country's highest league, the Syrian professional league. The club plays its home games in the Al Bassel Stadium.
Club history
The association was founded in 1947 as al-Jala (الجلاء, DMG al-Ǧalāʾ 'Liberation', based on the liberation from the former colonial power France) and not, as is often stated in statistics, as al-Qadisiyya (القادسية, DMG al-Qādisiyya ). The name was probably changed to al-Qadisiyya in 1974. In 1976 the name was changed to Tischrin , as the month of October is called in Levantine Arabic (an allusion to the October 1973 war), after the association with city rivals an-Nahda ( Arabic النهضة, DMG al-Nahḍa 'Renaissance'), formerly al-Arabi (العربي, DMG al-ʿArabī ) had merged. The club colors are yellow and red.
In the seasons 1981/82 and 1996/97, Tischrin won the title. Tischrin never won the cup despite three finals.
Tischrin drew attention to itself in the 2001/02 season with a scandal: On the 21st match day on May 4, a match was agreed between officials from Tischrin and two players from Jihad al-Qamishli and the entire Jihad Presidium. When the association got wind of the fraud, both teams were forcibly relegated.
