The Titan 1 was the first of four crane ships that the USSR gas ministry commissioned in 1982 from the Wärtsilä shipyard in Turku , Finland . In 1984 it was considered the largest catamaran ship in the world. Sister ships were the Titan 2 to 4 .
Technical specifications
The ship was driven diesel-electric with three Wärtsilä diesel engines (type: 3R32) on two propeller motors, 5500 kW, two 800 kW bow thrusters , two rotating rudder propellers. Diesel generators with a total of 2500 kW were available to generate electricity to drive the crane and winches .
The four ships were crane ships for offshore work and equipped with a 600 ton crane from the Finnish company Kone . This crane was built on a high column on the port side in order to have as much free space as possible under the boom. The hulls of the catamaran were individually towed over inland waterways to the Caspian Sea and assembled there under the supervision of the shipyard staff.
For positioning during the offshore work, the ship had ten anchors, each weighing ten tons. Additional equipment included a counter heeling system, a diving base with a decompression chamber , a steam hammer , a pile drilling system and various welding devices . The navigating bridge, the accommodations for 102 people and the main engine rooms are located in the foredeck.
