from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Titanic Sinclair (born February 22, 1987 in Saginaw , Michigan ; real name Corey Michael Mixter ) is an American web video producer and singer- songwriter from Los Angeles . He gained fame mainly through his and Mars Argos "Computer Shows" on their YouTube channel grocerybagdottv and his collaboration with the American singer Poppy , with whom he began to produce music and abstract videos in 2014 in order to use them on the video platform To publish on YouTube.

Life

Sinclair grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and graduated from Saginaw High School there. In an interview, he said that he was shunned by many of his classmates because of his childhood interest in abstract art. During his student days he ran a comedy channel with some friends on the iFunny website until he moved to Chicago with his former girlfriend and partner Brittany Sheets in 2007 to start their joint project. Brittany Sheets, also known by her stage name Mars Argo, was a writer and photographer at the time. Sheets separated from him in 2015 and he moved to Los Angeles to pursue other projects.

Career

Mars Argo

In 2007, Sinclair began with his former girlfriend and partner Mars Argo to make a series of short films and abstract skits, so-called "computer shows", and to publish them on their YouTube channel. These deal primarily with topics such as the Internet and modern pop culture . In 2009 they founded the band " Mars Argo ". Originally, they did not intend to write their own music, but they finally came to this decision, as the music with which they underlay their YouTube videos was protected by copyright. According to Sinclair, the band Radiohead was another inspiration to write their own songs and eventually to publish them. The music news broadcaster Wondering Sound described the band Mars Argo as "Pop paired with alternative" because their music actually has some elements of different genres. The duo released their first album "Technology Is A Dead Bird" in 2009. Two years later the next EP followed, "Linden Place", which also includes the single "Using You". The official music video for this is currently Mars Argos most viewed video on their YouTube channel.

In 2015 Sinclair announced on Twitter that the band would split up due to personal differences. As a result, almost all of the videos on her YouTube channel were deleted.

Poppy

In 2014 Sinclair met the American Moriah Pereira , with whom he started his new project "That Poppy" that same year, from which the character Poppy emerged . Since then, Sinclair has been producing abstract videos for her YouTube channel on a regular basis. These videos, which are strongly reminiscent of the "computer shows" with Mars Argo, went viral all over the world in a short time and caught the attention of many large Youtubers and media portals , such as Pewdiepie or CelebMix . Sinclair was also responsible for the production of Poppy's music video for her single "Lowlife", which is her most popular YouTube video with 59.9 million views (as of 2020).

In 2019, Poppy ended his collaboration with Sinclair and removed his name as a director of their videos. She also unfollowed him on all social media.

Solo career

In 2012 Sinclair released his first studio album "Thick Jello". Two years later his second album "I have Teeth" followed. So far he has released three singles, including the single "Trust Fund". The accompanying music video is currently the most viewed video on his YouTube channel. He himself describes his solo works as alternative rock with pop influences.

Sinclair has directed numerous music videos by famous artists such as Poppy, BØRNS and Knox Hamilton. He counts the American actor Matt Bennett among his friends. For this he also produced a series of skits in the style of Poppy's videos.
