Tito Barbón

Tito Barbón (born June 21, 1931 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † October 26, 2014 ) was an Argentine- Uruguayan dancer .

Naturalized in Uruguay in 1964, Barbón began his dance career in the ballet of the Teatro Argentino in La Plata . In 1957 he settled in Montevideo after the SODRE , of which he was a member for a long time, had hired him as principal dancer . There he was responsible for numerous choreographies, which were also performed internationally, for example in the USA and Brazil. Examples include Medea , El enviado , Opus II and La Peri .

Barbón, who had been married to Margaret Graham (1931-2004) since the 1950s, worked as a ballet teacher at the Escuela Municipal de Arte Dramático (EMAD) for 33 years . Since it was founded in 1975, he has also taught at the Escuela Nacional de Danza . He participated as a jury member at international dance festivals and competitions. He also worked as a ballet critic for the daily El Día and the magazine Sinfónica .

Barbón died on October 26, 2014.
