Tito Petkovski

Tito Petkovski ( Macedonian Тито Петковски ; born January 23, 1945 in Psača, Rankovce , Macedonia ) is a Macedonian politician .

biography

After attending school, he studied law at the University of Skopje and later worked in the State Planning Office.

As a candidate of the League of Macedonian Communists (Soyuz na Komunistite na Makedonija, SKM) he was elected member of parliament for the first time in 1991 and was initially deputy speaker until 1994. Petkovski was President of Parliament (Sobranie) between 1996 and 1998 .

On November 14, 1999, he was a candidate for the Socijaldemokratski Sojuz na Makedonija (SDSM) in the presidential elections, but was clearly defeated by Boris Trajkovski in the runoff election with 45 to 52 percent of the vote.

In November 2005 he resigned from the SDSM and instead founded the New Social Democratic Party (Nova socijaldemokratska partija, NSDP), of which he has been chairman since then.
