history
The urban area of Tizimín has its origins in the Mayan settlement X'Huencal and has been inhabited for about 4200 years. During the post-classical period the place belonged to the territory of the Cupul . Among other things, there was an important temple of the gods Yum Chac , Yum Kaxx and Yum Ik to which pilgrimages were held every year . In 1544 the area was conquered during the conquest . Between 1563 and 1566, the Franciscans built today's Church of the Three Kings. A 54-page Chilam-Balam text named after Tizimín and probably written there is now kept in the library of the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City .
