Lázaro Pérez Jiménez (born September 9, 1943 in Tizimín , Mexico , † October 25, 2009 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Celaya .

Life

Lázaro Pérez Jiménez studied humanities and philosophy at the Theological Seminary of the Madonna of Rosario and San Ildefonso in the Archdiocese of Yucatán and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Yucatán on September 21, 1968 . He then completed further studies with a focus on spirituality at the Gregorian. In addition to pastoral activities, he was a professor of dogmatics , vice-rector and prefect of studies at the seminary in Merida, Yucatán. He was also involved in the Secretariat of the Society of Priests, was a member of the Diocesan Commission for the Clergy and Spirituality, Chancellor of the Secretariat of Evangelization and Catechesis, responsible for the formation of permanent deacons and as a chaplain in the novitiate of the formation of catechists in the Guadalupana College. From 1989 to 1991 he was Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical University of Mexico (Universidad Pontificia de México), and he was also responsible for the formation of the clergy in the Archdiocese from 1980 to 1991.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Autlán on May 15, 1991 . He received his episcopal ordination from the Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, Archbishop Girolamo Prigione , on June 29, 1991; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Yucatán, Manuel Castro Ruiz and the auxiliary bishop in Toluca and later cardinal, Francisco Robles Ortega .

On July 26, 2003, he was appointed Bishop of Celaya by Pope John Paul II .

In the Mexican Bishops' Conference (CEM) he was a member of the Supreme Council of the Pontifical University of Mexico for the three-year period 1992–1994 and a member of the CEM's Social and Family Commissions from 1994 to 1997. From 1997 to 2000 he was President of the Commission for evangelization and catechesis and member of the Council of the Pontifical University of Mexico from 1997 to 2000.
