To the Highe $ t Bidder is the second studio album by the Dutch progressive rock band Supersister . It was released in 1971 on John Peels Dandelion Records and Polydor .

Creation and publication

Even with their debut album, Supersister was well known, because John Peel gave them airplay and they appeared on Dutch television. During performances in early 1971, material was already played that was to appear on the second album in the fall. To the Highe $ t Bidder was recorded in the summer of 1971 and produced by Hans van Oosterhout. In 2008 the album was remastered and re-released with bonus tracks.

style

Supersister play progressive rock on the album with strong influences from fusion and Canterbury sound as well as occasional echoes of psychedelic rock , electronic music and classical music . The organ playing is less dominant compared to the debut album, besides various keyboard instruments there are v. a. Flute and bass come into their own. The compositions and moods are varied and complex.

To the Highe $ t Bidder is now often considered the most successful work of the band and an insider tip for fans of the Canterbury sound. Christian Rode from Babyblauen Seiten says: “All in all, this album is very complex. […] It is very unique and great what Supersister have developed here. ”Torsten Gürntke sums up:“ If you are looking for an album that delivers melodic and instrumental sound without being kitschy, you shouldn't go wrong with this work. Great work! "The music magazine eclipsed took To the Highe $ t Bidder in its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
