The Evangelical Church in Stebbach , a district of the Gemmingen community in the Heilbronn district ( Baden-Württemberg ), dates back to the Middle Ages .

history

Church tower

The first documented mention of a church in Stebbach comes from the year 1398, when Ravan von Mentzingen transferred his patronage rights over the parishes of Stebbach and Gemmingen to his cousin Ulrich. The right of patronage in Stebbach was connected with the collection of the great tithe and the right of presentation , that is, the right to be allowed to appoint the pastor, but also with the duty to look after him, as well as the church building load . The church patronage changed several times and finally passed to the Counts of Degenfeld-Schonburg .

The Stebbacher church was consecrated to St. George and a branch of Gemmingen. As a Reformed Church, it was a branch of Schluchtern . From 1545 to the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1648, the creed changed eleven times in the town of Stebbach, which belongs to the Electoral Palatinate .

The parish of Stebbach has not had its own pastor since 1960 and is provided for by Gemmingen as it was 500 years ago.

architecture

The nave of the church was built around 1500 and renovated and expanded in 1773. The church originally only had a wooden tower, which was replaced around 1835 by today's stone church tower with a pyramid roof.

Inside the church has a wooden gallery running around the west and south sides. The wall niche above the altar once housed a mechanical organ , which was abandoned in the 1980s due to its poor condition and replaced by an electronic organ.
