Tobermory ( Scottish Gaelic Tobar Mhoire , "Mary's Well") is the capital of the Isle of Mull , an island in the Inner Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland , which belongs to the Council Area Argyll and Bute . Founded in 1788 as a fishing port, Tobermory is located in the northeast of the island and today has 954 inhabitants (as of 2011).
