Tobermory ( Scottish Gaelic Tobar Mhoire , "Mary's Well") is the capital of the Isle of Mull , an island in the Inner Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland , which belongs to the Council Area Argyll and Bute . Founded in 1788 as a fishing port, Tobermory is located in the northeast of the island and today has 954 inhabitants (as of 2011).
The colorful row of houses in Tobermory harbor is the backdrop for the famous British children's series about the fictional town of Balamory . A whiskey distillery and visitor center can be visited in Tobermory.
