Tobias Funke

Tobias Funke (born April 24, 1982 ) is a Swiss star chef from the Lake Zurich area .

Life

Funke began his cooking apprenticeship in 1998 with the subsequent service apprenticeship in Rapperswil Castle . The Rapperswil Castle as well as the art parlors in Küsnacht and Il Casale shaped Tobias Funke's culinary art. In 2006 he took over the Falkenburg restaurant in Rapperswil . He left this after four years to take over the orchard in Freienbach in 2010 , again as tenant and chef. In spring 2015 he took over the management of the Gasthaus zur Fernsicht in Heiden AR in the Appenzeller Vorderland (with a “home-style” and gourmet restaurant). He has been running the Cafe & Bar Frohburg since 2016 and the fondue chalet was added in winter 2016 . In winter 2017 he opened the first ice rink in Heiden, which is created every winter as a seasonal offer. In 2018 he started the outdoor boutique hotel project , which shaped the landscape for two winter seasons.

In 2011, Funke became Gault Millau's youngest “climber of the year” since the gourmet guide was founded. His gourmet restaurant has been awarded the second star by the Michelin Guide since 2020.

In 2011 he invented the “oldest menu in Switzerland” with dishes up to 600 years old.
