Tobias Heinrich Schubart (also: Theophilus Sincerus ; * February 14, 1699 in Osterbruch ; † February 22, 1747 in Hamburg ) was a North German theologian and spiritual poet .

Life

Tobias Heinrich is the son of Heino Schubart (* 1667 in Hamburg, † 1725 in Osterbruch), who had been a preacher in Osterbruch since 1694 . In 1716 Tobias H. Schubart attended the Johanneum and grammar school in Hamburg, studied theology in Jena from 1720 and passed his candidate exam in Hamburg in 1723. He then received a preaching position in Neuenkirchen and then one in his place of birth. On August 29, 1728 he became a preacher at St. Michaelis in Hamburg.

In the years 1733 and 1735 he published collections of sacred songs as well as sermons and some other writings, among others. a. one against Johann Christian Edelmann , Hamburg 1747. His songs are geared towards the practical, whereby 28 titles by Johann Jacob Gottschald were included in his universal hymn book from 1737 (after Eduard Emil Koch ). Some of his songs can also be found in community hymn books.
