Todd Thomsen (2006)

Todd Thomsen (born June 24, 1967 ) is an American politician . He represents an electoral district that includes Hughes , McClain , Pontotoc, and Pottawatomie Counties in the Oklahoma House of Representatives .

Early years

Thomsen played on the University of Oklahoma Oklahoma Sooners football team between 1985 and 1988 and took part in the national championship.

Political career

In 2006 he won the constituency as a member of the Republican Party against the Democrat Darrell Nemecek and became a member of the Oklahoma Parliament. In 2008 Thomsen ran again for re-election and summarized his election program with the keywords "Improving education, lowering taxes and enforcing conservative values ​​in parliament". In November 2008 he was re-elected and sits on the Education Committee , the House Education Committee, and chairs the Committee on Higher Education and Careers in Technical Professions.

He is considered the initiator of resolutions that are directed against evolution .

In 2009 he gained international attention when he submitted resolutions 1014 and 1015 to the Oklahoma Parliament, which should prevent the University of Oklahoma from inviting Richard Dawkins . Dawkins spoke to a crowd at McCasland Field House near the university and sharply criticized Thomsen. The Oklahoma House of Representatives rejected the resolutions.

In March 2009, Thomsen was appointed to another education committee, the Oklahoma Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research Advisory Committee. This committee aims to improve technical education at Oklahoma universities.

Private

He is married and has four children: Menee, Aneli, Tyde and Towan. His child Tal has died.
