The Togian Falkenkauz ( Ninox Burhani ) is an owl from the genus of Buschkäuze . It occurs only in the Indonesian Togian Islands .

features

A single specimen was 25 centimeters long. The weight is 98 to 100 grams. The top is dark brown with fine whitish or light brown spots or bands. The whitish underside is spotty and striped brown. The eyes are yellow to orange-yellow, the eyebrows light brown olive. The beak is cream-colored to gray with a greenish ridge. The legs are slender and featherless, the toes with bristles and dark horn-colored claws.

Way of life

It inhabits the tropical lowland rainforest and also mixed gardens near settlements. Food and hunting behavior are unknown. The characteristic voice is expressed in a croaking song made up of two to four tones ko-koko-ok and individual sounds.

distribution

The species lives endemically in the Togian archipelago in the Gulf of Tomini in northern Sulawesi .
