Kisaburō Tokai ( Japanese. 渡海 紀 三 朗 , Tokai Kisaburō ; born February 11, 1948 in Takasago , Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and was Minister for Education, Sports, Culture, Science and Technology from 2007 to 2008 .

Tokai is the eldest son of the former LDP politician and minister Tokai Motosaburō . He studied at Waseda University . He then worked for the architecture firm Nikken Sekkei . In 1985 his father died, Tokai became secretary to the deputy and then foreign minister Abe Shintaro . One year later, in 1986, he ran for the lower house in his father's constituency (3rd constituency, Hyōgo prefecture; since the electoral reform in 1996: 10th constituency) . When he left the LDP in 1993 and participated in the founding of the New Sakigake Party, he lost the new single-mandate constituency in the following election in 1996, but won it in 2000 after his return to the LDP and was re-elected in 2003 and 2005. Within the party he belonged to the Yamasaki faction .

Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda appointed him Minister of Education in September 2007, but replaced him with Tsuneo Suzuki during the cabinet reshuffle a year later . In 2009 he lost his seat in the House of Commons, and in 2012 he regained the constituency.
