Tokobot is a platform game for the PlayStation Portable released in 2005 . For the PlayStation 2 , an extended version came out some time later under the name Tokobot Plus: Mysteries of the Karakuri .

Game flow

The main character of the game is Bolt , a young scientist and archaeologist from the Canewood laboratory . On his first research expedition he discovered some rare Karakuri robots, the Tokobots . With them it is possible to explore the prehistoric ruins of a long-lost culture. On his voyage of discovery, he is drawn into the evil machinations of Colonel Fuel , a former employee of the Canewood Laboratory. Now it is Bolt's job to save the world from impending disaster. He finds out that there is a primordial Tokobot named Null who has the power to stop the rotation of the earth and thus destroy the world. But when Fuel finally finds out, it already seems too late.

Gameplay

Bolt uses the Tokobots to explore the prehistoric ruins. They can be grouped around Bolt in three different formations:

  • Circle formation

The tokobots surround Bolt and are therefore better suited for jumping passages, as the individual robots concentrate on a smaller area. Furthermore, in this formation it is possible to carry out a stomp attack, which is an enormous attack against many opponents. It can also be used to operate certain switches. Later in the game, they learn another skill, where they can carry Bolt on their hands and throw them into the air. This allows the player to reach higher areas.

  • Line formation

The Tokobots run after Bolt in a straight line. By holding the human being with the robots, they form a solid unit that is suitable for reaching remote locations. The tokobots are thrown in the direction of a magnet and stick to it, which enables the protagonist , e.g. B. to bridge a wider gap. Later in the game, the Tokobots learn the ability to swing through the air on magnetic bars.

  • V formation

The Tokobots line up evenly to the left and right of the player. Now it is possible for the player to spin like a top. An effective weapon against many opponents or the only way to set certain mechanisms in motion. Later in the game, the Tokobots learn the ability to glide over larger abysses with the help of rotation.
