The metro station Tolbiac is an underground station of Line 7 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier de la Maison-Blanche in the 13th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the Avenue d'Italie at the level of the crossing Rue de Tolbiac.

Surname

The station takes its name from the Rue de Tolbiac. Their eponymous place Tolbiac is not clearly identifiable. Presumably it is Zülpich near Cologne, where in the Battle of Zülpich (fr: Bataille de Tolbiac) in 496 the Rhine Franks under Sigibert of Cologne defeated the Alamanni with the help of the Sal Franks under Clovis I. During the battle, Clovis is said to have vowed to convert to Christianity if he won .

History and description

The station was initially put into operation on March 7, 1930 as part of line 10. At the time, this was extended from Place d'Italie to Porte de Choisy station. On April 26, 1931, the section Place Monge - Porte de Choisy was assigned to line 7 as planned, after it had been crossed under the Seine .

Under an elliptical , white-tiled ceiling vault, the station has side platforms on two parallel tracks. Already during construction it was laid out with the unusual length of 105 m, theoretically sufficient for seven-car trains.

Six access stairs are at the intersection of Avenue d'Italie and Rue de Tolbiac. Three of them are marked by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style with the word METRO.

vehicles

Conventional five-car trains of the MF 77 series run on Line 7 . Between 1971 and 1979 trains of the MF 67 series ran there , before that of the Sprague-Thomson type .
