Tolga Mevlüt Öngören (born August 18, 1963 ) is a basketball coach from Turkey who has coached clubs in his home country, where he was once Turkish champion and twice cup winner, as well as clubs in the German basketball league .

Life

As a player, Öngören played for a long time in Bursa with Tofaş. After retiring as a player, he worked for a year as an assistant coach for the Boilermakers at Purdue University in the NCAA in the United States . After his return he became assistant to the head coach of Jasmin Repesa at Tofaş, who in 1999 achieved a triple of championship, cup and presidential cup. When Repesa resigned the following season, the inexperienced Öngören took over the team around the star players David Rivers , Slaven Rimac, Rashard Griffith and the young, up-and-coming Mehmet Okur . The championship and cup titles won for the first time in the club's history in 1999 were successfully defended. Öngören achieved another cup victory as coach of Ülkerspor in the 2002/03 season, in which the championship was lost in the decisive seventh final game against defending champions and record champions Efes Pilsen Istanbul . In the following season he resigned as coach of Ülker and was briefly coach of Türk Telekom in the capital Ankara . In 2005 he returned to Tofaş and led the club back to the first division. With the defeat on the last day of the 2006/07 season against Efes Pilsen, however, they fell back to a relegation zone. In January 2008 Öngören took over the relegation-threatened BBL club Walter Tigers from Tübingen and managed to stay up. After Tübingen's financial difficulties, Öngören and Tübingen parted ways at the end of the following season and he became the new coach of Bundesliga club EnBW Ludwigsburg. But even with Öngören, the club did not make it into the play-offs for the championship. As a result, his contract was not extended for the 2010/2011 season. His successor in Ludwigsburg was Markus Jochum .
