The Tolly Cobbold Classic 1984 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1982/83 season . The invitation tournament was held from February 21st to 24th at the Corn Exchange in Ipswich . The sixth edition of the tournament was also the last, because the Tolly Cobbold brewery decided the following year to sponsor the English Professional Championship in its own right .
Steve Davis , who had already won the tournament twice, was in the final for the third time in a row this year. For the first time he was world champion and world number one. His opponent Tony Knowles didn't have much to oppose and clearly lost with 2: 8.
Prize money
Compared to the previous year, the prize money was again increased significantly by £ 5,500 . The increases ranged from £ 250 more for the first-round losers to plus £ 2,000 for the winner. This time there was also a bonus for the highest break.
