The 1983 Tolly Cobbold Classic was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1981/82 season . The invitation tournament was held from February 21 to 23. For the fifth time, the Corn Exchange in Ipswich was the venue of the tournament.
Defending champion was Steve Davis . He reached the final again and this time met Terry Griffiths . He defeated the Welshman 7-5 and won the tournament for the second time. As in the previous year, it was again Davis' fifth title of the season.
Prize money
There was almost twice as much money to be won this year as in 1982, and the price pot grew by £ 6,500 . The losers in the first two rounds got £ 250 and £ 500 more. The bonus for the runner-up doubled, the winner even got one and a half times as much.

Final round
The higher prize money also attracted more top professionals to Ipswich. All 8 participants belonged to the top 16 in the world rankings , number 1 Ray Reardon and world champion Alex Higgins competed in the tournament. The elimination tournament lasted three rounds until the winner was determined.
