The 1982 Tolly Cobbold Classic was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 1981/82 season . The invitation tournament was held from February 22nd to 24th at the Corn Exchange in Ipswich . It was the fourth edition of the tournament.
Graham Miles won the final last year after a successful group stage. This year the tournament was played for the first time as an elimination tournament and he lost in the semifinals to Steve Davis . The world number two then moved into the final and defeated Dennis Taylor 8: 3. It was Davis' fifth tournament win this season.
Prize money
The prize money was increased by £ 3,100 compared to the previous year . But this was mainly due to the new format. Nothing changed for the finalists, the rest of the prize money was divided between 6 instead of 2 players this year.
